Golf has been played in Zimbabwe since the 19th century. The first official golf club was founded in Bulawayo in 1895 and there are around 50 golf courses in Zimbabwe today.
The best courses are located in Harare, including the prestigious old parkland course at Royal Harare Golf Club – originally founded as Salisbury Golf Club in 1898 – which occupies a sizeable property next to the Sports Club cricket ground and the Presidential Palace.
Borrowdale Brooke, the brainchild of Lonrho Construction, was started in 1996. The Estate comprises 252 hectares of tranquil landscape sub-divided into 665 stands. There are a variety of housing designs on The Estate with basic building guidelines in place to ensure an overall standard of aesthetics, and safety standards of the City of Harare are adhered to.

Royal Harare was founded in 1898 by a group of intrepid golf lovers, who played on conditions far removed from the lush course that we know today. The Course was established on the current location in 1901. The original Course with its “sand greens” was very differently laid out to the current design. Originally known as Salisbury Golf Club, the Club was granted Royal Patronage in December 1929.
